Maintenance To Keep Your Watch Running Forever
If you have mechanical or an automatic moving watch, it is suggested to have your watch re oiled every five to ten years. This depends on how much you wear your watch. If the watch is a quartz watch, you should have the battery replaced as soon as it begins to die or immediately after the battery dies. Letting the dead battery sit in the watch can cause the battery to explode and corrode the insides. Depending on the watch, some of the Omega Constellation parts are hard to find.
With either kind of watch that you have, if you’re often around water, you should have the gaskets of your watch changed once a year. If your watch isn’t around water that much, you should have the gaskets changed only every two to three years.
If your watch is under warranty, you will need to have your watch serviced by Omega or by an authorized Omega dealer near you. If your watch is warranty is under gray market (bought from a non authorized Omega dealer) you should send it to the place that you originally purchased it from. If you don’t have a warranty or your warranty expired, find a trustworthy watch maker in a neighborhood near you. This would be cheaper than sending it to an Omega service center. If you decide to send it to an Omega center to be serviced, the best factory is the Switzerland factory.
What if you have a vintage Omega watch and Omega doesn’t make the parts for the watch anymore. You could either find the same watch and pull parts from it, or try finding a watch maker that knows how to make the specific part. The serial number of the Omega watches can be in different places. All newer Omega watches will have the serial number on the case back. Most of the Seamaster’s and Speedmaster’s will have the serial number on the seven o clock lug, and others will be on another lug. The Constellations have the serial number on the screw on case back.
